A study of 125 patients found that people with high levels of anxiety
due to chronic pain experience more pain, emotioanl distress, depression
and disability, but the use of pain coping strategies can lower this
effect. Coping strategies such as acceptance of pain, mindfulness and
values-based actions plus cognitive behavioral therapy were able to
buffer the effects of anxiety and decrease distress and disability in
